„We are each other’s magnitude and bond.“ (Gwendolyn Brooks) — Die Arbeiten des neapolitanischen Choreografen Alessandro Schiattarella widmen sich wiederholt der Frage, wie wir unsere eigenen Körper und jene um uns herum wahrnehmen – und wie starre Ideale von Schönheit und Normativität unser Weltverständnis prägen. Seine Produktionen entstehen in enger Zusammenarbeit mit den Tänzer:innen und vereinen technische Präzision mit einem spielerischen Umgang mit Tanz, Text, Objekten und Gesang. Stark von seinen Erfahrungen mit der Hirayama-Krankheit geprägt, unterläuft seine künstlerische Arbeit Stigmatisierungen und Stereotype und imaginiert eine Zukunft, in der Diversität an die Stelle normativer Vorstellungen rückt. Politisch und humorvoll, poetisch wie direkt, entwerfen Alessandro Schiattarella und Unusual Symptoms in ihrer ersten gemeinsamen Arbeit eine Choreografie der verkörperten Vielfalt.

“We are each other’s magnitude and bond.” (Gwendolyn Brooks) — The works of Neapolitan choreographer Alessandro Schiattarella have repeatedly dealt with the question how we perceive our own bodies as well as those around us – and how rigid ideals of beauty and normativity shape our understanding of the world. His choreographies are created in close collaboration with the dancers and combine technical precision with a playful approach to dance, texts, objects, and song. His artistic work, strongly marked by his experiences with Hirayama disease, circumvents stigmatisation and stereotypes and imagines a future in which diversity supplants normative concepts. Political and humorous, poetic as well as direct, Alessandro Schiattarella and Unusual Symptoms create a choreography of embodied diversity in their first collaborative effort.
