Renan Martins‘ Solo „Hélio“ ist eine Hommage an seinen Großvater Hélio Martins de Souza, einen brasilianischen Standardtänzer. In seinem autobiografisch geprägten Stück bewegt sich Martins durch ein persönliches Archiv von Volks- und Gesellschaftstänzen, während er mit seinen eigenen Erfahrungen als professioneller Tänzer in Europa in Dialog tritt. Mit großer Leichtigkeit und Witz verbindet Renan Martins eine zutiefst persönliche Erzählung mit Themen wie Authentizität, Originalität und Aneignung, untermalt von Steve Reichs monumentalem, vor mehr als 50 Jahren komponierten Musikstück „Drumming“.
Mit Hélio stellt sich der brasilianische Choreograf Renan Martins erstmals in Bremen vor – kurz vor der Premiere seiner neuen Produktion „Diamonds“ mit Unusual Symptoms, der Tanzkompanie des Theater Bremen.

Renan Martins' solo creation “Hélio “ is an ode to the life of Hélio Martins de Souza, Brazilian ballroom dancer and maternal grandfather of the choreographer. In his autobiographical piece, Martins moves through a personal archive of folk and social dances while entering into a dialogue with his own experience as a professional dancer in Europe. With great ease and wit, Renan Martins combines a deeply personal narrative with themes of authenticity, originality and appropriation, accompanied by Steve Reich's monumental piece of music Drumming, composed more than 50 years ago.
With “Hélio“, Brazilian choreographer Renan Martins introduces himself in Bremen shortly before the premiere of his new creation “Diamonds“ with Unusual Symptoms, the dance company of Theater Bremen.
